[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 25th that it has established the ‘2021 Basic Tourism Plan’ with the goal of attracting 1 million tourists this year and will promote systematic management of urban tourism projects and tourism promotion policies.
Starting with a business report on the 22nd, Dong-gu declared a full-scale leap in tourism, planning to establish strategies for attracting tourists and promotional marketing, aiming to strengthen the foundation to become the tourism hub city of South Korea.
The 2021 Basic Tourism Plan, under the slogan ‘2021 Gwangju Dong-gu, Bringing the Light of Tourism,’ includes activation measures such as ▲establishing a cooperative system with related organizations ▲creating tourism infrastructure ▲developing tourism programs utilizing local resources ▲tourism promotion marketing ▲statistical monitoring for qualitative management of the tourism environment.
Dong-gu set the goal of attracting 1 million tourists as this year’s tourism project performance target and planned the core project ‘Dongsim Dongsim (同心, 童心!) Gwangju Dong-gu,’ meaning “May is a month for everyone to participate together” and “October is a time to enjoy childhood memories,” during the months designated as Dong-gu Visit Months.
The Dong-gu Visit Months, scheduled to be held around May and October, will be linked with events such as the May 18 Democratic Uprising Memorial and the Nostalgic Chungjang Festival, operating citizen participation programs like diverse tourism course promotions and tourism photo contests. The creation of tourism infrastructure plans to revitalize urban night tourism through the Night Tourism Infrastructure Construction Project, part of the Asia Culture Plaza content development project.
Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, “In line with the establishment of the Basic Tourism Plan, we are preparing to open the ‘Dong-gu Art Travel Center’ in June this year to support the fostering of art tourism venture companies.” He added, “To maximize the ripple effect of the Basic Tourism Plan, we will leap forward as South Korea’s representative urban tourism destination by creating night tourism content using light and media and improving tourism infrastructure.”
