[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] Oh Se-hoon, the preliminary candidate for Seoul mayor from the People Power Party, has pledged to extend the Shinbundang Line to the northwest, start early construction of the Myeonmok Line light rail in the northeast, and ease regulations in the semi-industrial areas of the southwest.
On the 25th, Oh held a press conference at the National Assembly and announced his "regional pledges for the northwest, southwest, and northeast areas." Oh said, "Over the past 10 years, under the leadership of the late former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, Seoul missed or halted countless golden opportunities for balanced development," adding, "I will restore it to its original state."
First, to solve transportation issues in the northwest, he pledged to promote the extension project of the Shinbundang Line to the northwest. This means turning transportation-deprived areas into transportation hubs. Oh said, "Every election, Democratic Party lawmakers from this area have repeatedly used this issue and, once elected, it was renamed 'under review' again," emphasizing, "I will exclude outdated desk administration excuses such as preliminary feasibility study excuses and push for confirmed implementation."
Additionally, the northwest pledges include redeveloping Seoul Innovation Park into an economic and cultural town, developing a commercial and cultural complex landmark around Yujin Market and Inwang Market, and creating a core job hub for the 4th industrial revolution in the Susaek and Sangam areas.
In the northeast, he proposed early construction of the Myeonmok Line light rail. The goal is to improve transportation convenience in Jeonnong 2-dong, Jangan 2-dong, and Myeonmok-dong, which were public transportation blind spots, and to alleviate traffic congestion in Mangwoo 3-dong and Sinnae 2-dong.
Oh also promised to transform Cheongnyangni Station, where GTX-B and C lines intersect, into a metropolitan area transportation hub. He explained, "We will also quickly proceed with the Myeonmok Line, Gangbuk Transversal Line, express service on Line 4, and extend the Ui-Sinseol Line to Banghak-dong."
In the southwest, he pledged to attract new industries and create jobs by easing regulations in semi-industrial areas, expand the rail-centered public transportation network, and resolve chronic congestion on arterial roads. Oh said, "82% of Seoul's total semi-industrial area is concentrated in the southwest," adding, "We are planning a revolutionary change in floor area ratio."
He continued, "The relocation of the Guro train depot will be strongly implemented according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's decision," and added, "We will establish a master plan linking the Guro train depot, Guro Tool Market, and the redevelopment area around Sindorim-dong to create a regional landmark."
