Financial and Vaccine-Related Plans Must Be Disclosed
Explain Vaccine Supply Status and Herd Immunity Timing for Q3 and Q4
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Kim Jong-in, Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, criticized the government and ruling party for pushing to draft a supplementary budget just months after the main budget was processed. He also demanded explanations regarding plans for finances and vaccines.
On the 25th, Chairman Kim stated at the Emergency Committee meeting held at the National Assembly, "It was foreseeable in advance that the government's COVID-19 situation would continue, and the issue of disaster relief was also a situation that could be anticipated beforehand," adding, "When the budget was drafted last December, they failed to foresee this and prepared a regular budget. Now, only two months into the new year, they are proceeding with a supplementary budget, which is an absurd situation."
He said, "Instead of making momentary excuses, I hope they will have sufficient foresight so that the public can predict the future and feel reassured, and provide detailed explanations to the people regarding finances and vaccine issues."
Earlier, Representative Kim emphasized, "The government has made various statements about vaccines, but now it is highly uncertain whether vaccines can be supplied and administered according to the procedures the government has mentioned so far," adding, "Looking at global vaccine production, supply does not meet demand, and there is an evaluation that sufficient vaccine production is not being achieved. As initially stated, the government must clearly explain once again to the public what types and quantities of vaccines will be held and administered in the third or fourth quarter, and when herd immunity is expected to be established nationwide in South Korea."
