[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The government is establishing a Gender-Responsive Budgeting and Settlement Expert Evaluation Committee to begin reviewing related budgets.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced on the 25th that they held the 1st Gender-Responsive Budgeting and Settlement Council from the 5th to the 9th and decided to create and operate an expert evaluation committee under the council.
The evaluation committee, which will be fully operational from next month, will be composed of six private experts from various fields such as economics, education, and welfare.
It will be organized into three divisions focusing on the national gender equality index measurement areas: economic activities, education and vocational training, and welfare and culture.
The evaluation committee will review in advance the selection of gender-responsive budget target projects and performance evaluations.
Additionally, a working committee composed of experts in gender equality and finance will support the evaluation committee's review functions.
Each ministry is expected to reflect the evaluation results of the committee in the gender-responsive budgeting and settlement reports.
A Ministry of Economy and Finance official stated, "We plan to operate the evaluation committee effectively in the future to advance the gender-responsive budgeting and settlement system to the next level and to make a practical contribution to gender-equal national fiscal management."
