"Secondary Harm That Frustrates Youth Expecting a Fair Society"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Employees are strongly protesting the promotion of staff members who were previously involved in hiring irregularities and received internal disciplinary actions to deputy director and team leader positions in the Financial Supervisory Service's regular personnel appointments.
The Financial Supervisory Service branch of the National Office and Financial Services Union held a press conference and rally on the 25th in front of the Financial Supervisory Service building in Yeouido, Seoul, criticizing, "Promoting those involved in hiring irregularities on the grounds of good performance evaluations or outstanding work ability is a secondary harm that frustrates not only the honest employees of the Financial Supervisory Service but also young people who expect a fair society."
The Financial Supervisory Service promoted Team Leader Chae to deputy director and Senior Investigator Kim to team leader. Both individuals were disciplined after being caught in hiring irregularities during their time working in the HR team, as revealed by the Board of Audit and Inspection's audit results.
The union also issued a statement on the 22nd, saying, "Due to the aftermath of the hiring irregularities, innocent employees have suffered from promotion restrictions and wage cuts such as reduced performance bonuses for three years," and raised their voices, "Such personnel appointments should not be made. Is there truly justice in the Financial Supervisory Service?"
They added, "If there is any sole contribution of Governor Yoon Seok-heon, it is teaching the painful lesson that 'professors cannot be an alternative to bureaucrats,'" warning, "No matter how much personnel appointments are the governor's exclusive authority, responsibility for wrong personnel decisions will be borne in some form."
In response, a Financial Supervisory Service official explained, "The period for imposing disadvantages due to disciplinary actions has passed, and the personnel evaluation results were excellent, so they were included in this personnel appointment."
