Life with a Dining Table, Early Season Sweet Corn Supply Up 25%... Also Introducing Processed Foods Life with a Dining Table, Deodan Chodang Corn.


[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Siktak-iinneunSalm (Siksalm) announced on the 25th that it plans to increase the shipment volume of Chodang Corn by 25% compared to last year, distributing a total of 5 million ears this year. They also plan to expand processed products such as convenience foods using Chodang Corn.


Chodang Corn is a high-sugar corn that can be eaten raw like fruit without cooking. It has 2 to 3 times higher sugar content than regular corn but is low in calories, making it less burdensome.


Chodang Corn was first introduced to Korea by Siksalm in 2014, and they succeeded in localizing it by creating a cultivation manual suited to domestic conditions. Currently, they handle more than 70% of the domestic distribution volume. With this increase in shipment volume, they expect to achieve sales of 8 billion KRW from Chodang Corn alone this year.


Siksalm plans to supply Chodang Corn in various processed forms such as retort pouch foods, rice cakes, and Makgeolli so that consumers can enjoy it year-round.


Kim Jae-hoon, CEO of Siksalm, said, "To minimize the shortage of supply to consumers like last year, we focused on securing production areas and building cooperative models with farmers. As we increased the volume, we also concentrated on developing processed foods so that consumers can enjoy Chodang Corn regardless of the season."
