[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Choi Jong-moon, the 2nd Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that the international community must respond jointly to pandemics similar to COVID-19.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 25th, Vice Minister Choi attended the "Multilateralism Solidarity Video Conference" held on the occasion of the 46th United Nations Human Rights Council High-Level Segment the previous day, and evaluated that multilateral solidarity contributed to the promotion of international cooperation. He further stated that stronger joint responses are necessary to prepare for the digital revolution, climate change, and pandemics similar to COVID-19.
He also mentioned that close cooperation among stakeholders is important to maximize the positive aspects of digital technology on human rights.
In this regard, Vice Minister Choi introduced the "New Technologies and Human Rights" resolution led by the Korean government since 2019 and requested interest and support for the follow-up resolution. The "New Technologies and Human Rights" resolution addresses the impact of digital new technologies on human rights.
The video conference, hosted by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was attended by representatives from over 30 countries including Korea, as well as international organization officials such as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNESCO, and the Director-General of the World Trade Organization.
