Raised 2,264,750,000 KRW in Donations and Contributions... Far Exceeding Initial Goal of 910,000,000 KRW... Companies, Organizations, and Residents United in Participation... District Sends Thank You Letters to Over 600 Donors
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] "Neighborly love was even warmer amid the COVID-19 cold wave!"
Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) achieved the highest fundraising amount in its history through the '2021 Warm Winter Campaign.'
Guro-gu announced on the 25th, "Through this Warm Winter Campaign, we raised a total of 2,264,750,000 KRW, including 540,350,000 KRW in cash donations and 1,724,400,000 KRW in goods. Despite the difficulties expected due to COVID-19, we exceeded the target amount of 910,000,000 KRW, achieving a 248% success rate."
The 'Warm Winter Campaign' is an annual fundraising initiative jointly conducted by Guro-gu, the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest, and the Guro Hope Welfare Foundation to help neighbors in need. The donated cash and goods are used to support basic livelihood security recipients, low-income single-parent families, elderly living alone, and child-headed households within the district.
Guro-gu carried out the campaign over three months starting from November last year, making efforts to increase residents' interest and participation in fundraising.
They installed a 'Love Thermometer' at the entrance of the district office plaza to display real-time fundraising status and introduced contactless participation methods using QR codes. Additionally, various promotional activities were conducted targeting local businesses, organizations, and residents.
Guro-gu plans to send letters of appreciation to about 600 donors who participated in this campaign early next month. Furthermore, 25 outstanding donors will receive plaques of commendation, and around 40 others will be awarded certificates of appreciation.
A Guro-gu official stated, "Despite the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn, many companies, organizations, and residents united to participate in this campaign. We will strive to ensure that the precious donations are used where they are most needed."
