[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] There have been a series of fraud cases where victims were lured with part-time job offers to take revealing photos, then threatened with the distribution of these photos to extort money.
According to MBC News on the 24th, university student A received a message in an SNS open chat room a few months ago saying, "If you just take and send simple photos, you will receive 500,000 won."
Thinking it was a decent part-time job, A contacted them.
The company said, "We are recruiting members for stock investment, and we need many female members," and requested that A send only upper body photos.
However, contrary to the initial story, the company began making increasingly unreasonable demands.
At one point, they demanded photos showing A's face, then asked A to lower one side of their upper body underwear or even take photos completely undressed.
When A said they could no longer comply, the company threatened, "We will spread your photos on the internet," and demanded money.
The company told A, "Bring someone else, send photos, or send money."
As reports of similar damage from others surfaced, the police launched an investigation.
The police applied for a warrant to search Kakao, which operated the open chat room.
It is reported that the police are considering applying charges under the Special Act on Sexual Violence Crimes for "threats using filmed materials."
