[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The Myanmar military has warned the media not to use words referring to the military regime (Junta, Regime).

According to local media on the 24th, Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing said at the State Administration Council meeting on the 22nd, "Media outlets that continue to use the term military regime will lose their publishing licenses," adding, "Measures to regulate the media according to journalistic ethics should be taken through the Myanmar Press Council."

The military emphasized that its coup on the 1st was "assuming national responsibility according to the constitution and carrying out duties under the emergency provisions."

The Myanmar Ministry of Information raised its voice, saying, "Since the government was established by the military according to the constitution, the term military regime should not be used," urging the media not to incite public anxiety.

Myanmar journalists and citizens are opposing the military's warning, demanding that the media not be censored. An acting editor-in-chief of a local media outlet said, "This is a warning to independent media and an attempt to stop accurate reporting," adding, "We will continue to use the term military regime."

It was also reported that in another local media outlet, executives resigned after management instructed them to use the term 'transfer of power' instead of coup.
