[Asia Economy Reporter Jo Gang-wook] The government is set to announce candidate sites for the ‘Urban Public Housing Complex Project’ targeting areas near subway stations, semi-industrial zones, and low-rise residential areas, as outlined in the February 4 housing supply plan, as early as next month.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 24th that it plans to actively promote new projects such as the urban public housing complex development project announced in the February 4 plan by conducting consultations through an integrated support center and disclosing some candidate sites where residents have expressed willingness to participate by next month. In May, the ministry plans to hold the first round of public recruitment for leading project candidate sites for major projects including public direct implementation redevelopment projects and urban public housing complex projects.

The candidate sites received through the recruitment process will be finalized as the first round of leading project candidate sites in July after consultations with local governments, and the recruitment of candidate sites will continue thereafter. On the 23rd, an explanatory session for the public direct implementation redevelopment project was held.

Additionally, small-scale redevelopment projects in areas near subway stations and semi-industrial zones under 5,000㎡ will begin with a project briefing session on April 2, and small-scale housing maintenance management areas and residential regeneration innovation districts will start their briefing sessions on April 1, with district designations expected to be finalized in the fourth quarter.

Regarding new urban projects, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to launch an integrated public recruitment targeting project sites that have received consultation results by the end of May, selecting project areas with more than 10% consent from landowners (or association members) as priority candidate sites. The ‘Housing New Deal,’ which supplies housing linked with living SOC and jobs mainly in provincial cities, will have specific plans announced within the first half of the year after preparing project promotion measures and consulting with related agencies.

A ministry official emphasized, "In addition to securing new public housing sites, we plan to steadily implement follow-up measures for new urban projects announced in the ‘Public-led 3080+ and Drastic Expansion Plan for Housing Supply in Metropolitan Areas.’"
