GaonBroadband, First Domestic Telecom Provider to Supply 'Antenna-less' WiFi 6 Router

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Gaon Broadband, a network solution specialist company, announced on the 24th that it has developed an antenna-embedded Wi-Fi 6 wireless router (AP) and will supply it to LGU+. This is the first time a domestic telecom company has adopted an antenna-embedded Wi-Fi 6 AP.

Gaon Broadband enhanced the product's performance while significantly improving design and user convenience by reflecting consumer needs. This product has no externally protruding antenna, is small in size for easy placement, and features a clean exterior design that does not obstruct the screen even when displayed alongside a TV. According to the company, this minimizes network inefficiency issues caused by placing APs out of sight as was done previously.

The contract win is attributed to Gaon Broadband’s technological capabilities and references from supplying antenna-embedded APs to major European telecom companies. The company explained that through improvements in the embedded antenna function and software performance optimization know-how, it developed an excellent product with performance equal to or better than antenna-external products.

While antenna-embedded APs with superior exterior design are already common overseas, domestic telecom companies have been using antenna-external products due to performance differences. The release of this product is expected to bring changes in preferences among domestic operators and consumers.

A company representative stated, “In the untact era, inquiries about this product from domestic and international operators are increasing to build high-quality home networks,” adding, “As people spend more time at home, interest in interior design is also rising, so we expect customer demand to grow further.”

Gaon Broadband was the first in Korea to receive Wi-Fi 6 certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance in 2019 and also became the world’s first to receive EasyMesh certification in the same year.

Meanwhile, Gaon Broadband is a subsidiary of Gaon Media, an AI total solution company. Recently, it signed an IPO underwriting contract with Mirae Asset Daewoo and has begun the listing process. Last month, it won the supply contract for Wi-Fi 6 wireless routers in the ‘National School Public Wi-Fi Construction Project,’ which is part of the government’s Digital New Deal policy.
