[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] The daily number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea has risen back to the 400s after three days.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 24th at midnight that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 440 from the previous day to 88,120.
The sources of infection for the new confirmed cases were 417 local transmissions and 23 imported cases.
About 70% of the locally transmitted cases occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area. There were 138 cases (33.1%) in Seoul, 137 cases (32.9%) in Gyeonggi, and 17 cases (4.1%) in Incheon, totaling 292 cases in the metropolitan area, accounting for 70.0% of all confirmed cases.
Other regions reported new confirmed cases as follows: ▲Gwangju 35 ▲Daegu 17 ▲Gyeongbuk 15 ▲Busan 13 ▲Chungnam 12 ▲Gangwon 9 ▲Jeonbuk 8 ▲Gyeongnam 7 ▲Daejeon 2 ▲Sejong 2 ▲Jeju 2 ▲Ulsan 1 ▲Chungbuk 1 ▲Jeonnam 1.
There were 23 imported confirmed cases. Among them, 4 were detected during quarantine, and 19 were identified locally. Ten were Korean nationals and 13 were foreigners.
The number of patients who have recovered and been released from isolation reached 79,050, an increase of 656 from the previous day. Among the hospitalized confirmed cases, the number of critically ill patients decreased by 8 to 140 compared to the previous day. The death toll rose by 3 to 1,576.
On the previous day, 38,309 diagnostic tests were conducted for suspected cases. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 31,211 tests were performed, confirming 54 new cases.
