SKT Leads 5G and AI Patent Technologies... Selected as a Global Top 100 Innovative Company

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] SK Telecom announced on the 24th that it has been listed among the 'Global Top 100 Innovative Companies' selected by Clarivate Analytics, a global patent solutions specialist. The company is recognized for its global leadership in patent and technology development fields including mobile communications, 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), media, and security.

Since 2012, Clarivate has announced the Global Top 100 Innovative Companies annually based on four indicators: number of patent registrations, impact, registration rate, and global marketability. This year, companies from 12 countries including the United States (42 companies) and Japan (29 companies) were listed. In South Korea, a total of five companies were selected, including SK Telecom, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, LS Electric, and KAIST. SK Telecom was newly selected after six years. Overseas, companies such as Apple, Qualcomm, and AT&T were included in the Global Top 100 Innovative Companies.

According to the selection criteria, SK Telecom registered a total of 2,638 patents over the past five years. It also holds about 600 international standard patents. Additionally, SK Telecom has generated royalty income exceeding 30 billion KRW over the past five years through active management of standard patents. Through patent-sharing activities with the Invention Promotion Association and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, SK Telecom has opened 2,597 registered patents and transferred 130 patents free of charge, leading efforts to build a win-win ecosystem with small and medium-sized enterprises.
