Guro-gu, Recruiting Students for First Half of the Year Lifelong Education Programs

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “Endless learning! Guro-gu is here to help.”

Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) is recruiting students for the first half of the year lifelong education programs.

Guro-gu announced on the 24th, “We operate various lifelong learning programs to expand lifelong learning opportunities for residents and improve their quality of life,” adding, “While lectures were previously conducted on-site, all lectures in the first half of this year will be held online to prevent COVID-19.”

The education will be conducted non-face-to-face online using a video conferencing platform from March 15 to June 3. Participants can join classes from their desired location via PC or mobile phone, and real-time Q&A is also available.

The programs consist of 19 courses in four areas: citizen participation, value growth, club sharing, and Guro Life School.

The citizen participation area collaborates with women’s environmental movement organizations to easily provide specialized content related to the environment, such as health, air, and zero waste in the era of climate crisis.

The value growth area is conducted through a professional self-development learning program institution. Courses such as ‘Self-Efficacy Enhancement Project,’ ‘Holland Test,’ and ‘Speech Skills’ help strengthen personal capabilities for job preparation and more.

The club sharing area unfolds through talent sharing by members of lifelong learning clubs within the district. It introduces various club activities such as ‘Poetry Recitation Discovering Myself,’ ‘Stories Inside Joseon Palaces,’ ‘Chinese Characters Kaleidoscope,’ and ‘Let’s Go Play with Books,’ encouraging resident participation.

The life and humanities Guro Life School area is conducted with excellent resources from Sungkonghoe University.

It consists of various humanities courses such as ‘World Cultural Travel through Architecture,’ ‘Our Minhwa Stories,’ ‘Reading and Writing in the Digital Media Era,’ ‘Daily Stress Management,’ ‘One Page Art That Becomes Mine Just by Reading,’ and ‘Technological Development and Communication Changes.’

The courses are open to Guro-gu residents or workers in the area. Those who wish to participate can apply by visiting the Education Support Division of the district office or the Lifelong Learning Center, or through the internet ‘Guro Lifelong Learning Center Homepage.’ Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and tuition is free (materials fee separate).

A Guro-gu official said, “We prepared online lectures so that residents can safely and conveniently experience lifelong learning nearby even in the COVID era,” and added, “We hope everyone enjoys the joy of learning through this lifelong education program.”
