Ride Safely~ Yangcheon Residents Enroll in Bicycle Insurance

Automatic Enrollment for District Residents, Benefits Available Regardless of Accident Location... First Enrollment This Year, Coverage Starts from February 23

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) has enrolled all residents in the Yangcheon-gu Residents Bicycle Insurance to create a culture where all residents can ride bicycles with peace of mind, with coverage starting from the 23rd.

All residents registered in Yangcheon-gu are automatically enrolled without any separate procedures, and can receive compensation for bicycle-related accidents occurring nationwide regardless of the accident location.

Even residents who do not ride bicycles can claim insurance if an accident occurs while walking on the road due to a moving bicycle.

So far, the district has continuously improved bicycle infrastructure, such as repaving old bicycle roads and adjusting road widths, to create a pleasant environment for bicycle use.

However, as the use of bicycles, an eco-friendly non-face-to-face means of transportation, has expanded, accidents have steadily increased accordingly. With this bicycle insurance enrollment, Yangcheon-gu residents can now ride bicycles with greater peace of mind.

Looking at the detailed coverage: ▲ 200,000 to 600,000 KRW for a diagnosis of 4 to 8 weeks of treatment after an accident ▲ 200,000 KRW consolation money if the diagnosed person is hospitalized for more than 7 days with a diagnosis of over 4 weeks ▲ up to 10 million KRW for 3 to 100% permanent disability ▲ 10 million KRW in case of death (excluding those under 15 years old) ▲ up to 20 million KRW for fines when causing injury or death to others (excluding those under 14 years old) ▲ up to 30 million KRW if prosecuted for causing injury or death to others and criminal settlement is required (excluding those under 14 years old) ▲ up to 2 million KRW for attorney fees (excluding those under 14 years old).

Even if a considerable amount of time has passed without knowing about the district’s bicycle insurance implementation, compensation can be claimed within 3 years from the date of occurrence if the accident happened during the enrollment period. Overlapping coverage with personal indemnity insurance is also possible, which is expected to increase benefits for residents.
