Pasteur's 'Kwaebyeon Yogurt', First Fermented Milk Registered as 'Functional Labeled General Food'

Pasteur's 'Kwaebyeon Yogurt', First Fermented Milk Registered as 'Functional Labeled General Food' Pasteur Quick-Bowel Movement Yogurt.

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Lotte Food Pasteur announced on the 24th that its 'Kwaebyeon Yogurt' has been registered as the first "functional labeling general food" among domestic fermented milk products. Functional labeling general food is a system that allows functionality to be indicated on general foods if there is sufficient scientific evidence.

From now on, the Kwaebyeon Yogurt package will include the phrase, "This product contains inulin chicory extract, which is known to help promote smooth bowel movements." Kwaebyeon Yogurt contains 3,400 mg of the functional ingredient inulin chicory extract. Inulin chicory extract, a type of dietary fiber, is supported by more than 200 scientific studies and has obtained six health claims (functional labels) from EFSA (European Food Safety Authority).

Kwaebyeon Yogurt contains ▲ 7,500 mg of dietary fiber including inulin chicory extract ▲ four types of complex probiotics including Denmark's famous BB-12® ▲ 1,400 mg of three types of oligosaccharides ▲ 1,300 mg of lactulose, among other ingredients.

Functional labeling general foods can only be manufactured by HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certified companies using functional ingredients produced by GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice for Health Functional Foods) certified manufacturers. Additionally, businesses must conduct quality inspections every six months on the content of functional ingredients to ensure that the functional content is maintained until the expiration date.
