[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] A highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) case has been confirmed at a laying breeder farm in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Avian Influenza (CDSCH) announced on the 23rd that after conducting a detailed inspection of the farm where the H5-type AI antigen was detected, it was confirmed to be the highly pathogenic H5N8 strain.
The number of highly pathogenic AI cases reported at domestic poultry farms and experience farms has totaled 101.
The CDSCH implemented enhanced quarantine measures including preventive culling of poultry raised at farms near the outbreak site, movement restrictions, and intensive disinfection.
A CDSCH official said, "Farm owners should be especially careful with biosecurity measures, recognizing that contamination outside the poultry houses could be widespread."
He added, "It is essential to disinfect all areas of the farm, vehicles, people, and equipment, and to strictly follow basic rules such as changing boots when entering and exiting the poultry houses."
