Volunteer Recruitment for Women Aged 18+ for Activities from 24th to 26th... Bi-monthly Inspections of Illegal Camera Installations in Public and Private Restrooms

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is recruiting the '2021 Dongjak-gu Illegal Filming Citizen Surveillance Team' for residents familiar with local conditions to directly participate in illegal filming prevention activities.

The district plans to form the illegal filming citizen surveillance team to strengthen inspection activities, alleviate social anxiety among residents when using external restrooms, and establish a safe network against illegal filming within the community.

Meanwhile, a survey of 1,078 women residing in Seoul found that 91.2% of respondents answered "worried" to the question, "Have you ever been concerned about illegal filming when using external restrooms?"

The recruitment target is women aged 18 or older who can participate in volunteer activities, with 10 positions available.

Selection will consider related volunteer experience and group activities, and final candidates will be individually notified on March 5.

Selected citizen surveillance team members will receive prior capacity-building training on roles, duties, and inspection methods, then conduct activities such as checking for illegal filming devices in public restrooms and running campaigns to prevent illegal filming and raise awareness.

Inspection activities are scheduled twice a month (3 hours per day), but activity methods and campaign promotion will be adjusted according to the COVID-19 situation.

Additionally, a monthly activity allowance of 60,000 KRW per person will be provided, but separate volunteer hours will not be recognized.

Applicants should complete and submit the application form, self-introduction letter, and personal information consent form via email (jhkimina0@dongjak.go.kr) between February 24 and 26.

Kim Kyung-ok, head of the Childcare and Women’s Division, said, "We will eradicate illegal filming and create an environment where residents can feel safe," adding, "We ask for the participation and interest of those who are interested in preventing illegal filming and actively performing the role of the citizen surveillance team."

Meanwhile, last year, 1,483 inspections were conducted across 48 facilities, including public and private restrooms in places such as subways and universities.
