Ten Confirmed Cases Related to Insurance Company Call Center in Gwangju... Total 2012 Cases

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] A large number of COVID-19 cases have been confirmed at an insurance company call center in Gwangju Metropolitan City.

According to Gwangju City on the 23rd, as of 6 p.m. that day, 12 additional cases were confirmed, classified as Gwangju cases 2001 to 2012.

Among them, 10 are related to the new cluster infection at the insurance company call center. When a call center employee is confirmed positive, a chain of secondary infections occurs extending to their family members.

After confirming that Gwangju case 1994, confirmed the previous day, was an employee of the insurance company, the quarantine authorities conducted comprehensive testing on about 120 colleagues and others.

So far, 11 confirmed cases related to the call center have been identified: Gwangju cases 1994, 2001, 2002, and 2005 to 2012.

The building where the insurance company is located also houses public institutions and other call centers, raising concerns among quarantine authorities that this could be the starting point of a large-scale outbreak.

The quarantine authorities have temporarily closed the facility and are discussing future measures after conducting a risk assessment.

At the same time, two confirmed cases (Gwangju cases 2003 and 2004) registered are related to the previously confirmed Gwangju case 2000.

The infection route of Gwangju case 2000 is unknown.

The total number of new confirmed cases as of this day has increased to 15.
