Yeongdeok-gun Selects Over 32,000 Residents, 90% of Entire Population, for 'COVID-19 Vaccination'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province (Governor Lee Hee-jin) announced on the 23rd that it will carry out vaccination from March to December targeting all residents aged 18 and over (32,764 people, 90% of the total population) with the goal of forming herd immunity against COVID-19.

Yeongdeok-gun, which formed a vaccination promotion team led by the deputy governor, established a public-private cooperation system together with a local council consisting of 11 officials from related organizations such as Yeongdeok Asan Hospital, the fire station, the police station, and the Yeongdeok-gun Medical Association.

The priority vaccination targets for the first quarter are 441 people in total, including 209 residents and workers under 65 years old in high-risk group facilities such as nursing hospitals and nursing homes, 82 hospital workers, and 150 COVID-19 response personnel. The vaccine used is AstraZeneca. Both the first and second doses are required, with an 8-week interval between doses.

In the first and second quarters, priority targets will be vaccinated through visits or self-administration. From the second half of the year, vaccinations will be conducted at vaccination centers and designated medical institutions. The vaccination center will be set up at Yeongdeok National Sports Center in July. Selection of designated medical institutions is currently under negotiation.

Kim Jeong-tae, head of the COVID-19 vaccination promotion team (deputy governor), said, "We will do our best to ensure that vaccinations proceed accurately and safely to restore our precious daily lives from COVID-19," and urged, "We ask vaccination targets to cooperate by getting vaccinated without fail according to the schedule."
