Variable Classrooms and Studios... Establishing Seoul-style High School Credit System 'SeollemONsil' Seoul-style High School Credit System Space 'Seollem Greenhouse'

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] A school space called 'SeollemON Room' for the high school credit system will be introduced in general high schools in Seoul. It is a new-concept future classroom that enables interactive remote classes and small-group collaborative classes.

On the 23rd, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it will select 101 out of 208 general high schools to establish SeollemON Rooms. Variable classrooms will be provided to 66 schools, and online studios will be supported in 89 schools.

The variable classroom is equipped with folding doors that allow flexible adjustment of the space, making it suitable for small-group subject classes. When the folding doors are opened, one large space is divided into small soundproof classrooms, allowing different classes to be conducted simultaneously.

The online studio can operate real-time interactive remote classes and also enables teachers to produce online content. Depending on how the variable classroom and online studio are combined or arranged, various classes suitable for the high school credit system can be conducted.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has established SeollemON Rooms in preparation for the full implementation of the high school credit system in 2025, creating future classrooms that can be flexibly operated according to the curriculum. While operating remote classes that overcome spatial and temporal limitations, it is also expected that the 'Shared Campus' joint curriculum, a cooperative education program between schools, will be conducted within regular classes.

This year, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans to support schools transitioning from autonomous public high schools (Jagoggo) to general high schools to build SeollemON Rooms more creatively through the 'General High School Transition Support Fund.'

Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's 'SeollemON Room' will become a hub for future-oriented classes that transcend the physical limitations of schools. In particular, as a core of the 'Seoul-type High School Credit System,' it is expected to open a new horizon for the successful establishment of the high school credit system by enhancing the quality of real-time interactive remote classes operated within regular hours in the Shared Campus starting this year."
