[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters reporters Lee Jun-gyeong and Choi Kyung-pil] In a daycare center in Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, teachers and children were consecutively confirmed positive for COVID-19, prompting emergency measures from health authorities.
According to Wando-gun on the 23rd, two teachers and two children at daycare center A in Wando were confirmed positive the previous afternoon and were classified as Jeonnam cases 834 to 837. They were identified as close contacts of a daycare center B teacher who commutes between Mokpo and Wando in the morning of the previous day and tested positive for COVID-19, and additional infections were confirmed through a full investigation.
Jeonnam case 832, teacher B, is known to work as a nighttime care teacher at the daycare center during weekdays and reside in Mokpo on weekends.
A parent in Wando-eup said, “The places visited by the confirmed teacher are so many that I am worried and anxious that they might become a super spreader,” adding, “I hope no more confirmed cases appear.”
After a teacher working at the daycare center was infected with COVID-19, Wando-gun ordered the full closure of all daycare centers starting from the 23rd and is conducting a full investigation targeting all residents whose movement paths overlap.
County Governor Shin Woo-cheol stated, “Wando, which prided itself as a COVID-19 clean area, is now facing the greatest crisis since the outbreak due to a cluster infection,” and added, “The county will mobilize all administrative power and cooperate with Jeonnam Province and the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to overcome the crisis by blocking further infections and ensuring rapid stabilization.”
Earlier, health authorities estimate that Jeonnam case 832 was infected after visiting the Mokpo office of Jeonnam case 811, who is involved in cosmetics door-to-door sales, on the 14th.
As a result, the total number of confirmed cases related to door-to-door sales in Mokpo and Muan has increased to 18.
