[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] A man in his 30s who was sentenced to prison in the first trial for forcibly molesting a fellow inmate was sentenced to imprisonment again for committing similar sexual acts against another fellow inmate.
The 11th Criminal Division of the Gwangju District Court (Presiding Judge Jeong Jiseon) announced on the 23rd that it sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted on charges of quasi-rape, to 2 years and 6 months in prison.
The court also ordered Mr. A to wear an electronic location tracking device for 3 years and imposed a 3-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities.
The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "Considering the circumstances of the crime committed against a fellow inmate who was in a state of helplessness and the degree of molestation, Mr. A's culpability is serious," and "We took into account Mr. A's risk of reoffending and the fact that the victim likely experienced significant sexual humiliation."
Mr. A was indicted for committing similar sexual acts against fellow inmate Mr. B, who was sleeping next to him in the same cell at the Jeonnam Haenam Correctional Institution around 2:05 a.m. on June 6 last year.
It was reported that at the time of the crime, Mr. A was already serving a prison sentence after being convicted in the first trial for forcibly molesting another fellow inmate.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A committed sexual violence against Mr. B just two days after receiving the sentence.
