Hyundai Motor to Unveil Ioniq 5 Online for the First Time on the 23rd at 4 PM
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Motor's electric vehicle, the 'Ioniq 5,' will be unveiled worldwide for the first time.
Hyundai Motor plans to reveal the Ioniq 5 to the world for the first time on the 23rd at 4 p.m. via the official Hyundai Motor Group YouTube channel and other platforms.
The Ioniq 5 is the first vehicle to apply Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated electric vehicle platform, E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform). It is regarded as a key strategic vehicle that will open a new era in future mobility business envisioned by Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Euisun.
The Ioniq 5 can travel over 500 km on a single charge (based on WLTP standards) and features an 800V charging system that allows 80% charging within 18 minutes when using an ultra-fast charger.
The distinctive design also draws attention. According to teaser images previously released by Hyundai Motor, the front of the Ioniq 5 features Hyundai's first 'Clamshell Hood,' which wraps the entire upper part, minimizing the parting lines where surfaces meet to create a sleek and high-tech impression. The side is equipped with wheels featuring the largest diameter ever applied to a Hyundai electric vehicle?20-inch aerodynamic wheels?achieving perfect electric vehicle proportions.
Hyundai Motor explained that the Ioniq 5 incorporates the brand's core design element, the 'Parametric Pixel,' along with nature-friendly colors and materials. The Parametric Pixel is a unique design element of the Ioniq 5 that shapes pixels, the smallest units composing an image.
Flat Floor Applied by Eliminating Interior Tunnel Section
Inside, a flat floor was applied by removing the interior tunnel section, which was a structural limitation of internal combustion engine vehicles, along with a Universal Island console that can move forward and backward.
A slimmed-down cockpit (the dashboard component module in the driver's seat) and an electronic shift-by-wire (SBW) lever placed around the steering wheel were also applied to enhance interior mobility convenience and allow versatile use of the interior space.
The first-row driver and passenger relaxation comfort seats, including leg supports, reduce occupant fatigue by adjusting the angles of the backrest and cushion, enabling comfortable driving as well as restful breaks during stops.
Emphasizing sustainability in mobility, a large amount of nature-friendly materials and eco-friendly processes were applied. Fabric made by crushing and processing recycled transparent PET bottles was used for parts of the leather seats and door armrests, while bio-materials extracted from sugarcane were used on the doors, dashboard, ceiling, and floor sections.
Additionally, plant-based oil extracted from flaxseed was applied in the leather seat dyeing process. Bio paint made using plant-based oils extracted from rapeseed and corn was used on frequently touched parts such as the steering wheel and switches, demonstrating an eco-friendly mobility pursuing sustainability.
Hyundai Motor emphasized that it plans to continuously expand the application of eco-friendly materials and processes in upcoming Ioniq models to build an image as an eco-friendly brand.
