[Golf Topic] 'Genesis Champ' Homa "World Ranking 91 → 38"... Johnson 'Number 1'

[Asia Economy Golf Specialist Reporter Kim Hyun-jun] ○…‘Genesis Champ’ Max Homa (USA, photo) has risen to 38th in the world rankings.

In the weekly official golf world rankings announced on the afternoon of the 22nd (Korean time), he received 2.76 points, jumping an impressive 53 spots from 91st place last week. On the morning of the same day, at the Pacific Palisades Riviera Golf Course in California, USA (par 71, 7,322 yards), he reached his second career win after an extended playoff battle with Tony Finau (USA) in the final round of the PGA Tour Genesis Invitational (total prize money $9.3 million), accumulating points. It is his first win in 1 year and 9 months since the Wells Fargo Championship in May 2019.

The ‘Top 5’ remain unchanged with Dustin Johnson (USA), Jon Rahm (Spain), Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele (both USA), and Tyrrell Hatton (England). It is interesting that Finau has consecutively finished as runner-up following the Farmers Open on the 31st of last month. He is ranked 13th. The ‘Returned Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods (USA) is 50th, and his return to the PGA Tour is uncertain after his fifth recent back surgery. For Korea, Im Sung-jae (23) is 17th, ‘American Express Champ’ Kim Si-woo (26) is 53rd, and An Byeong-hun (30, both CJ Logistics) is 77th.
