Prosecutor Mid-Level Executive Personnel Changes... Key Case Investigation Teams Retained

'[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] On the 22nd, the Ministry of Justice carried out a mid-level prosecutor personnel reshuffle. Na Byunghun, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office, who was dispatched to the Military Death Accident Investigation Commission, was appointed as the First Deputy Chief Prosecutor, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of First Deputy Chief Prosecutor Kim Wookjun.

The Ministry of Justice implemented transfer appointments for 18 prosecutors at the level of high prosecutors (deputy chiefs and chiefs) on the same day.

The main investigation teams remained unchanged in this reshuffle. The Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office investigation team, which is investigating the allegations of early closure of the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant, is a representative example. The Ministry of Justice explained, "This personnel reshuffle was conducted within the minimum necessary scope to ensure organizational stability and continuity of investigations, while also striving to reflect necessary measures for the continuous promotion of prosecutorial reform."

In fact, the Ministry of Justice retained all mid-level executives of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office Criminal Division 3, responsible for the illegal travel ban allegations involving former Deputy Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Criminal Division 1, responsible for the alleged collusion between prosecutors and media, and the Criminal Division 5, responsible for the assault allegations against Deputy Minister of Justice Lee Yong-gu by a taxi driver.

The concurrent appointment of Im Eunjeong, Inspection Research Officer of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, as a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office is notable. This is intended to enhance the efficiency and function of inspection duties by granting investigative authority as part of inspection reform.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor Personnel Committee meeting held at the Government Gwacheon Complex on the morning of the same day ended after about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Prior to the meeting, Cho Namgwan, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, stated, "We have strongly requested the maintenance of the current status of investigation teams handling important cases and the positions of chiefs at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and central district prosecutors' offices."
