[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] As foreigners and institutions increased their net purchases, the KOSPI showed an upward trend in the early trading session.


As of 9:38 a.m. on the 22nd, the KOSPI stood at 3,133.25, up 0.82% (25.63 points) from the previous trading day. The KOSPI opened the day at 3,114.03, up 0.21% (6.41 points) from the previous day.


Looking at investor trends, foreigners and institutions bought stocks worth 51.3 billion KRW and 92.3 billion KRW, respectively. Individuals alone sold stocks worth 149.2 billion KRW.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix rose by 1.57% and 4.14%, respectively. On the other hand, LG Chem (-1.81%), Samsung Biologics (-1.13%), Samsung SDI (-2.08%), and Kakao (-0.6%) declined.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ index stood at 967.41, up 0.24% (2.30 points) from the previous trading day. The KOSDAQ index opened at 965.55, up 0.05% (0.44 points) from the previous day. Looking at investor trends, individuals alone bought stocks worth 87.4 billion KRW. Foreigners and institutions sold stocks worth 44.8 billion KRW and 34.6 billion KRW, respectively.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Pearl Abyss (0.38%), Kakao Games (0.91%), Alteogen (3.22%), and HLB (3.49%) rose.


Seonghoon Seo, a researcher at Samsung Securities, explained, “Although concerns about recent inflation and the resulting rise in market interest rates are increasing, there are no liquidity issues and signs of economic recovery are also being confirmed, so the impact on the market will be limited.”
