Hyundai Rotem Participates in Middle East International Defense Exhibition IDEX 2021

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Hyundai Rotem announced on the 22nd that it will participate in the Middle East's largest international defense exhibition, 'IDEX 2021,' held from the 21st (local time) to the 25th at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

IDEX is the largest integrated land, sea, and air defense exhibition in the Middle East, held biennially since 1993. This year, over 1,240 companies from 62 countries worldwide are participating. About 15 domestic defense companies are also attending.

At this exhibition, Hyundai Rotem will showcase the K2 tank as well as an obstacle-clearing vehicle capable of removing mines and various obstacles. The Middle East version of the K2 tank is a modified vehicle based on Korea's K2 tank, designed to operate in high-temperature environments such as deserts. It features enhanced engine cooling performance and high-temperature tracks to ensure mobility in the Middle East's hot climate.

Marketing efforts for exporting the K2 tank will focus on regions with tank demand such as the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. Hyundai Rotem plans to display a model of the Middle East version K2 tank at the exhibition and hold meetings with senior military officials from the region.

Additionally, the company will introduce the 'HR-Sherpa,' a multipurpose unmanned vehicle capable of unmanned and autonomous driving. The HR-Sherpa is an electric-driven multipurpose unmanned vehicle powered by batteries, which can be configured for various purposes such as fire support, surveillance reconnaissance, and logistics transport. It is equipped with remote control functions and a subordinate driving capability that automatically follows soldiers in front of the vehicle, as well as autonomous driving features. Hyundai Rotem will seek collaboration opportunities on core technologies such as unmanned and protection technologies with global defense companies at the exhibition.

Furthermore, Hyundai Rotem will demonstrate the performance and functions of various products, including the obstacle-clearing vehicle capable of removing mines and obstacles, and a 360-degree situational awareness device that enables external reconnaissance from inside the vehicle.

A Hyundai Rotem official stated, "Through this exhibition, we will promote the competitiveness of various products such as the K2 tank and HR-Sherpa and continuously strive to pioneer new overseas markets."
