[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] As noise between floors has emerged as a serious social issue, "revenge tools for floor noise" have appeared and gained popularity on platforms such as Danggeun Market, Junggonara, and Naver Shopping.

On the 18th, a post titled "Response to Floor Noise" along with a photo of a woofer speaker was uploaded on the secondhand trading app Danggeun Market. The seller said, "The output is very powerful. The effect is amazing," adding, "After only suffering, I used a counterattack device, and the upstairs neighbors started listening well."

The woofer speaker is a high-priced bone conduction speaker that produces low-frequency sounds. When installed on the ceiling, it can send noise back to the upstairs neighbors, and it has recently been used as a tool for retaliation.

Although the price easily exceeds 100,000 won, many people purchase it through various online shopping malls and secondhand trading apps and leave reviews.

Searching "floor noise revenge" on Naver Shopping yields about 200 products. Among them, a product ranked number one has received over 2,100 reviews.

The reviews include high praise such as "I bought it after much hesitation. I don’t know why I didn’t buy it sooner," "Taking revenge on the upstairs neighbors makes me feel at ease," and "You don’t know the stress unless you experience it."

However, there is also negative perception about attaching speakers to the ceiling for floor noise revenge. Some netizens expressed their suffering, saying, "I am a victim of the revenge speaker. The upstairs neighbors installed a revenge speaker to retaliate against their upstairs neighbors, but the sound reaches our house."

Other criticisms include comments like "Let’s live with mutual consideration" and "Why take revenge when you can just talk to the upstairs neighbors?"

Meanwhile, as time spent at home increased due to COVID-19, disputes over floor noise have surged. According to the Korea Environment Corporation, complaints about floor noise received last year totaled 42,250, a 60.9% increase compared to 2019.

Previously, famous broadcasters such as Lee Hwijae and Ahn Sangtae were also pointed out as perpetrators of floor noise issues, causing controversy.
