[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] A teenage boy was sentenced to prison for forcibly sexually assaulting his 14-year-old girlfriend after she went to the bathroom.
Daegu District Court announced on the 21st that it sentenced A to 3 years in prison (long term) and 2 years (short term) for violating the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse (deception and sexual assault), and ordered him to complete 80 hours of a sexual violence treatment program.
According to the court, A forcibly sexually assaulted B, his girlfriend, at a public restroom in Nam-gu, Pohang City, around 5 p.m. in early December 2018.
It was also reported that A took money from the victim B. Around 3 p.m. in mid-January 2019, at a C stadium in Nam-gu, Pohang City, he took 27,000 won in cash from B, and on several days that same month, he extorted 40,000 won in cash from her on the street in Yeonil-eup.
Additionally, A is accused of threatening B for money in an alley in Yeonil-eup, Nam-gu, Pohang City, in early March 2019.
The court criticized, "The defendant intruded into the bathroom where the victim was using the toilet, committed a sexual act by force, and extorted or attempted to extort the victim's property," but explained the sentencing by saying, "However, the defendant is a juvenile whose personality is still developing, and it appears that he committed the crime somewhat impulsively and spontaneously due to immature judgment."
