The Sancheong Police Station in Gyeongnam announced on the 20th that they have arrested and are investigating A (35) on suspicion of murdering the pension owner.
A is suspected of repeatedly assaulting the pension owner in his 70s with fists and feet at a pension in Sancheong around 7:20 p.m. on the 19th, causing his death.
A arrived at the pension around 5:40 p.m. that day to stay for one night and then committed the crime.
The police, who responded to a report from a guest, arrested A around 11:20 a.m. the next day, 16 hours after the crime, at a farm shack located 200 meters away on a mountainside.
During the police investigation, A stated, "The pension owner seemed like a bad person, and I thought if I didn't kill him, someone else would be harmed."
Prior to this, A had visited a temple in Yangsan, requesting to meet the head monk to become a monk. When his request was denied, he caused a disturbance by breaking a city gas panel and was arrested on the spot by the police. It was revealed that after the police investigation, A took a taxi to Sancheong.
A is understood to have suffered from depression due to job failure and other reasons. The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
