[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 19th that it conducted the ‘Yongpyeong-ri Village Management Social Cooperative Resident Education’ according to the activation plan of the Urban Regeneration New Deal Project.

The village management social cooperative is a non-profit organization that maintains and manages the basic living infrastructure supplied through the urban regeneration project and is a resident-centered organization that provides goods and services needed by residents.

Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the county only promoted recruitment of trainees last year.

The recruitment criteria prioritized residents within the Yongpyeong-ri Urban Regeneration New Deal Project area, and additional recruitment is being expanded to residents of the county.

This education is scheduled to be conducted a total of five times until March, and the curriculum will cover understanding cooperatives ▲ procedures and precautions for establishing a village management social cooperative ▲ preparation of establishment documents (articles of incorporation) ▲ preparation of business plans ▲ and operational practices.

After the education, the chairman and executives will be elected, and the village management social cooperative, with residents as members, will apply for establishment and approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Son Jae-hyun, head of the Urban Regeneration Support Center, said, “We want to give great significance to the operational roles of the Handeul Hub Center, shared kitchen, toy rental center, Ssajeon, and vacant house (community) spaces while promoting the urban regeneration project,” adding, “We expect it to be a model case of a resident-led village management social cooperative through long-term and stable profit generation and operational management.”

Seo Chun-su, mayor of Hamyang-gun, said, “I think it is very meaningful as the first step toward establishing a village management cooperative as the first button for promoting a sustainable urban regeneration project led by residents,” and added, “The administration, the Urban Regeneration Support Center, and local residents will actively communicate and do their best to support the fostering of a self-sustaining organization.”
