[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Hoban Construction held the topping-out ceremony for the ‘HP Printing Korea R&D Center’ and prayed for the successful completion of the subsequent finishing works.
On the 19th, Hoban Construction held the topping-out ceremony for the HP Printing Korea R&D Center in Godeung District, Sujeong-gu, Seongnam City. The topping-out ceremony marks the completion of the building’s framework and was held along with a safety prayer ceremony wishing for zero accidents. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, only a limited number of attendees participated, including Kim Kwang-seok, CEO of HP Printing Korea, and Kim Myung-yeol, Head of Construction Division at Hoban Construction.
The HP Printing Korea R&D Center is being constructed with a total floor area of 64,399㎡, spanning from 5 basement levels to 7 above-ground floors, equivalent to the size of nine soccer fields. Construction began in April 2019, and the current progress rate is 37%, with completion scheduled for the first half of 2022. The R&D Center is being built as an eco-friendly green building, certified with the US LEED Gold rating, a global green building certification system. It is expected to become a hub for advanced industries in Seongnam, connecting Wirye District and the Pangyo area.
Kim Kwang-seok, CEO of HP Printing Korea, said, “We are pleased to build a new R&D Center in addition to our Pangyo office. HP Printing Korea, the cradle of HP’s corporate printing technology and strategy, will operate the largest R&D center among foreign IT companies in Korea, employing over 1,000 researchers.” He added, “With the successful establishment of the R&D Center, we aim to further enhance HP Printing Korea’s technological capabilities and create opportunities for greater coexistence with the local community.”
Kim Myung-yeol, Head of Construction Division at Hoban Construction, stated, “The construction is progressing smoothly, with the framework work completed ahead of schedule compared to the plan.” He added, “We will concentrate Hoban Construction’s construction know-how and technological capabilities to ensure the building meets the status of HP’s global technology innovation hub.”
Meanwhile, Hoban Group’s construction affiliates, including Hoban Construction, are strengthening their competitiveness in various fields by securing projects such as the HP Printing Korea R&D Center, the industrial complex development project in Gomo-ri, Pocheon, and the low-temperature logistics complex development project in Anseong.
