[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Two new confirmed cases of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were reported overnight in Muan, Jeonnam.
According to Muan County on the 19th, two people who had close contact with the wife (Muan case 22) of a second-tier financial institution employee in Haeje (Muan case 21) tested positive for COVID-19 and were classified as Muan cases 26 and 27.
They were identified as residents living in Haesiang Apartment in Muan-eup and Namak New Town in Samhyang-eup.
Since the outbreak originating from a church in Sinan on the 14th, COVID-19, which had spread to Haeje-myeon and Hyeongyeong-myeon in Muan, is now spreading to Muan-eup and Namak New Town, putting quarantine authorities on high alert.
In particular, this spread is known to be related to cosmetics door-to-door sales, raising concerns about further transmission. The door-to-door salespeople are also reported to include residents from nearby local governments such as Mokpo.
With two additional cases on the 19th, 14 people have been infected in the Muan area since the 14th, and 9 people have been infected in Sinan, bringing the total number of infected cases to 23.
So far, no connection has been confirmed between the recent movements of the second-tier financial institution employee in Haeje (Muan case 21) and the Jido Church in Sinan County, where a recent cluster infection occurred, and quarantine authorities are conducting a detailed epidemiological investigation.
A Muan County official said, “We are conducting a detailed epidemiological investigation keeping all possibilities open regarding the cause of infection,” and urged, “Please follow social distancing and quarantine guidelines.”
