Husband Sentenced to Prison for Stabbing Wife 17 Times to Death in Front of Elementary School Daughter... Daughter Writes Letter Pleading for Leniency

[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] A man in his 40s who stabbed his wife 17 times with a weapon in front of their elementary school-aged daughter, causing her death, has been sentenced to a heavy prison term. Despite suffering severe psychological trauma, the daughter reportedly sent a letter to the court pleading for leniency for her father before the sentencing hearing.

On the 18th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Bucheon Branch of the Incheon District Court (Chief Judge Im Haeji) announced that A (43), who was indicted on charges of murder, was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The court stated the sentencing rationale, saying, "It is appropriate to isolate the defendant, who ended marital conflict in front of the child with murder, from society for a long time so that he lives with a repentant heart," but also added, "The defendant reported the crime immediately after the incident through his daughter and surrendered himself, confessed to all the crimes, and showed remorse. The court also considered that he had made efforts to prevent the discord with the victim from escalating to a catastrophe by attending marital counseling in the past."

A was arrested and indicted on charges of killing his wife B (40) by punching her in the face and stabbing her 17 times with a weapon at their home on September 7 last year.

According to the autopsy, B was found to have suffered a fractured lower jaw and was killed while unconscious and collapsed. It was reported that A attempted self-harm after the crime.

Investigations revealed that since September 2019, after B went on a trip with acquaintances without informing A, frequent quarrels occurred between the couple.

The daughter of A, who was present at the crime scene and witnessed the shocking incident, is currently being cared for by her grandmother. A’s daughter has submitted a letter to the court requesting leniency for her father.
