National Qualification Training for Youth Counselors Operates 'Course Completion System'

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Korea Youth Counseling and Welfare Institute will operate the national qualification training for youth counselors in the first quarter of 2021 in the form of a 'subject completion system.'

On the 18th, the Korea Youth Counseling and Welfare Institute announced that it will operate the subject completion system for those who have passed the final qualification exam for youth counselor levels 2 and 3 from sessions 1 to 18 until March 14.

The subject completion system is a process where participants can choose and attend the schedules of each subject offered during a certain period as they wish. It was designed to allow flexible scheduling for those who find it difficult to participate continuously in training for more than 100 hours.

Youth counselors are specialized counseling personnel authorized by the Minister of Gender Equality and Family based on the Youth Basic Act. Field experts who communicate with youth can enhance their professional capabilities through the youth counselor qualification process.

This year, night classes on weekdays have been specially opened for the convenience of trainees. This reflects survey results showing that it is difficult to take long-term leave from work and that many affiliated institutions do not approve leave. Conducted through real-time video education, trainees can participate online without location restrictions and communicate with instructors in real time.

The qualification training in the form of the subject completion system is scheduled to be additionally offered in the second half of the year. Those who pass the 19th qualification exam (2021) can apply after checking the announced implementation notice later. The training schedule and detailed information can be found on the youth counselor website.

Lee Gi-sun, Director of the Korea Youth Counseling and Welfare Institute, said, “The newly opened weekday night classes are an active service provided for participation convenience,” and added, “We hope this opportunity will help field workers who have been unable to participate in qualification training due to busy work schedules to improve their professional capabilities.”
