[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 18th that it has developed next-generation 'Connected Car Artificial Intelligence (AI) Voice Recognition Technology' that allows convenient control and use of various vehicle functions and systems based on significantly enhanced natural language commands.

This technology, independently developed by Hyundai Motor Group, is designed to be integrated with the existing Kakao i service. It provides an upgraded connected car service that enables customers to easily use functions such as vehicle control, navigation and system settings, and vehicle manual information search through voice recognition while driving.

The company explained that to greatly expand the types and scope of services, the voice recognition technology was developed in conjunction with the vehicle system design stage. Through this, customers can manage their vehicles, acquire manual information, and control vehicle systems and functions using AI-based natural language commands.

For example, if a warning light unknown to the customer suddenly appears on the car dashboard or information related to vehicle maintenance is needed, customers can press the voice recognition button and ask questions like “Why did this warning light turn on?” or “Tell me when to change the engine oil” to obtain relevant information without needing the manual or assistance from a maintenance service center.

Additionally, customers can easily control and set vehicle systems and functions by voice commands such as “Change the interior mood light to red,” “Set the passenger seat temperature to 23 degrees,” or “Change the navigation guidance voice.”

Hyundai Motor Group plans to continuously enhance customer satisfaction with connected car services by regularly updating voice commands that reflect various situations and provide information related to automotive life, including unfamiliar vehicle terms and operation methods, through its independently developed next-generation connected car AI voice recognition technology.

The AI-based next-generation connected car voice recognition technology is scheduled to be first installed in mass-produced vehicles in the second half of this year, and existing vehicle customers will be able to use it through future navigation software updates.

Kwon Haeyoung, Head of the Infotainment Development Office at Hyundai Motor Group, said, “The next-generation connected car AI voice recognition technology we unveiled this time was developed to allow drivers to communicate more easily with their cars and control and use various functions.” He added, “Hyundai Motor Group will continue to improve the quality of connected car services by utilizing increasingly advanced AI technology.”
