Gwanak-gu Expands IoT-Based Smart Parking Sharing

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is expanding and promoting the parking sharing promotion support project targeting two public parking lots and private attached parking lots to efficiently use vacant parking spaces in the area and alleviate local parking difficulties.

In the second half of last year, the district invested 55 million KRW of city funds to install IoT parking sensors in 23 spaces at Sinwon-dong 1st Public Parking Lot and 21 spaces at Miseong-dong 2nd Public Parking Lot, establishing the first autonomous system linked with LoRa network among Seoul’s autonomous districts.

Through this, residents can use the shared parking lots by selecting their preferred company among two sharing companies (Juchajang Mandeuneun Saramdeul, Hancom Mobility) via a smartphone app or ARS.

The IoT shared parking lots operate on weekdays (excluding weekends and public holidays) from 9 AM to 6 PM. Parking fees are prepaid 1,200 KRW per hour (Hancom Mobility) or postpaid 100 KRW per 5 minutes (Juchajang Mandeuneun Saram).

Additionally, a free sharing (opening) project for four parking spaces at Saebongcheon Church (Gwanak-ro 15-gil 10) is also underway for private attached parking lots.

The district supports the installation of parking barriers and auxiliary facilities at the parking lot, allowing anyone to use it free of charge for up to 2 hours per vehicle on weekdays from 9 AM to 6 PM until 2022.

The private attached parking lot sharing project is a program where the district provides separate incentives when surplus parking spaces in residential areas, apartments, schools, and religious facilities are opened.

Through this, the district supports private facility representatives who wish to open 5 or more spaces for over 2 years with up to 20 million KRW. The support funds can be used for CCTV and control facilities within the parking lot, parking facility improvement costs, and more.

Facility owners and managers who wish to participate can contact the Gwanak-gu Office Traffic Guidance Division.

Meanwhile, as of February 2021, the district has secured a total of 3,928 parking spaces through private attached parking lots and resident-priority parking sharing projects, contributing to improving residents’ convenience by alleviating parking difficulties.

Mayor Park Junhee said, “The parking sharing project is a meaningful project where the public and private sectors join forces to solve the shortage of parking spaces in the area and feel the value of sharing. We will continue to do our best to discover and expand support for shareable parking spaces in the area to alleviate parking difficulties in densely populated residential areas and improve residents’ convenience.”
