Jeju Airport Faces Consecutive Flight Cancellations Due to Strong Winds

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] Flight operations originating from Jeju are being disrupted due to a strong wind warning issued across Jeju and a sudden wind shear warning at Jeju International Airport.

According to the Korea Airports Corporation Jeju Headquarters on the 17th, T'way Air flight TW902, which was scheduled to depart from Jeju to Gwangju Airport at 8:05 a.m., was canceled.

By 10:24 a.m., a total of 32 flights had been canceled, including 15 departures and 17 arrivals.

Additionally, six other flights were delayed.

At Jeju Airport, both takeoff and landing directions have been under sudden wind shear and strong wind warnings since the afternoon of the previous day.

The sudden wind shear warning refers to turbulence caused by abrupt changes in wind direction. Currently, Jeju Airport is experiencing wind speeds with a maximum instantaneous velocity of 12.9 meters per second.

The sudden wind shear and strong wind warnings at Jeju Airport are expected to remain in effect until 10 a.m. on the 18th, and other airports in different regions are also experiencing sudden wind shear and strong winds. Therefore, cancellations of flights originating from Jeju and delays in connecting flights are expected to increase further.

Airport users are advised to check with their airlines in advance to confirm whether flights will operate normally.

Meanwhile, the domestic flight schedule originating from Jeju Airport on this day includes 184 departures and 183 arrivals, totaling 367 flights.
