[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Na Kyung-won, a preliminary candidate from the People Power Party running for the Seoul mayoral by-election, summoned former Minister Cho Kuk in relation to Shin Hyun-soo, the Blue House Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs, expressing his intention to resign. This statement appears to be in reference to the confrontation that took place on the 16th at the National Assembly’s Education Committee.
On the 17th, Candidate Na wrote on her Facebook, "Senior Secretary Shin has expressed his intention to resign. It seems he ultimately could not endure being treated like an invisible man," adding, "The Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs and the Minister of Justice of this administration are still former Minister Cho Kuk."
She said, "Looking at the behavior of the Democratic Party lawmakers who are 'protecting Cho Kuk' at yesterday’s standing committee in the National Assembly, I can only think that they are hopeless," emphasizing, "The Democratic Party administration, completely immersed in pro-Moon Jae-in pure-bloodism, is an administration beyond repair."
The day before, the Education Committee witnessed a confrontation over issues related to former Minister Cho Kuk and Candidate Na’s children. Cho Kyung-tae, a People Power Party lawmaker, mentioned that Cho Kuk’s wife, Jung Kyung-shim, a professor at Dongyang University, was found guilty of admission fraud charges in the first trial, stating, "Shouldn’t the Moon Jae-in administration, which claims to eradicate deep-rooted evils, punish such corrupt forces?" Lawmaker Kwak Sang-do also claimed there were problems with Cho Kuk’s son’s admission.
In response, Jung Cheong-rae, a Democratic Party lawmaker, brought up the issue of grade correction during Candidate Na’s daughter’s enrollment at Sungshin Women’s University. Lawmaker Jung pointed out, "Although belated, shouldn’t the graduation certificate be revoked according to the Sungshin Women’s University audit?" and questioned, "Isn’t this clearly illegal?" He also defended the allegations against former Minister Cho by saying, "To my knowledge, professors have testified that a Dongyang University certificate of commendation has no bearing on admission to the Pusan National University Medical School."
Candidate Na also added, "The Democratic Party administration is an administration beyond repair," and "If we do not change the administration, we will continue to live forever under the shadow of the eternal Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs, Cho Kuk."
