[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Shin Mo, known as 'Kelly,' who was sentenced to one year in prison for distributing sexually exploitative materials through chat rooms similar to the Telegram 'Nth Room,' and was additionally indicted on similar charges, has been sentenced to four years in prison.
On the 16th, Judge Jung Moon-sik of the Chuncheon District Court Criminal Division 1 sentenced Shin to four years in prison on charges of producing and distributing obscene materials under the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles Against Sexual Abuse. Additionally, Shin was ordered to disclose his personal information for seven years, complete 200 hours of sexual violence prevention treatment programs, and was banned from employment at child and youth-related institutions for ten years.
Shin was indicted for distributing 123 child and youth obscene materials and 676 adult obscene materials through Telegram chat rooms from his home in Osan-si, Gyeonggi Province, in July 2019. He is also accused of filming sexual intercourse scenes with women without their consent using a camera at his residence and other locations between August 2013 and April 2017.
In particular, from January 2018 to August 2019, Shin stored approximately 91,890 obscene materials featuring children and youth at his home and sold about 2,590 of them, for which he was sentenced to one year in prison in November 2019.
Shin appealed the sentence, but withdrew the appeal as public outrage over the 'Nth Room' case grew, finalizing the sentence.
