Construction plan for one month completed in one day... 4D smart modeling program 'Smile' 4D Smart Modeling Program Screen

Daewoo E&C announced on the 16th that it has developed a 4D smart modeling program called 'SM.ile' based on big data. This program was created to easily implement '4D modeling' for earthwork and framework work by utilizing big data accumulated from performing various domestic and international construction projects over 47 years.

By using this program, not only can the 3D (three-dimensional) modeling time for earthwork and framework work be drastically reduced, but it also enables optimal method selection through real-time construction planning, as well as calculation of construction quantities and durations. The program name 'SM.ile' is a compound of 'SM' from Smart technology and the adjective suffix 'ile,' meaning 'able to.'

Typically used design drawings represent space in 2D (two dimensions), which can cause errors in actual construction. Recently, the construction industry has been activating 3D modeling work such as BIM (Building Information Modeling) to prevent construction errors, reduce costs, and improve productivity.

However, 3D modeling requires specialized programs (such as Revit, Tekla) and related knowledge, making it difficult for non-experts to access. Using SM.ile, tasks that usually took about a month?such as analyzing design drawings and surrounding terrain information, establishing construction plans, and calculating construction quantities and durations?can be completed in just one day.

When project information (ground, terrain, drawings, framework information, etc.) is input into the SM.ile program, it automatically recognizes 2D drawings and implements real-time 3D modeling. By selecting construction methods (23 types) and equipment (42 types) from the program’s built-in library, Daewoo E&C can calculate construction quantities and durations using big data accumulated from various sites.

Daewoo E&C plans to actively utilize the SM.ile program from the pre-contract feasibility review stage. Once contract information is secured, it can be converted into visualized '4D modeling' information using the SM.ile program, which will help facilitate quick decision-making and project advancement.

A Daewoo E&C official stated, "The SM.ile program includes a library of advanced construction methods, which will be a great help to small and medium-sized construction companies with less construction experience."
