[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] A woman and a group of men carrying firearms who approached Secret Service (SS) agents near the White House, claiming they wanted to give a letter to President Joe Biden, were apprehended.
According to Fox News on the 14th (local time), police arrested Sylvia Hall (66) the previous day on charges of possessing unregistered firearms and ammunition. A man who was with Hall was also arrested on charges of possessing a BB gun.
They reportedly went to a vehicle checkpoint near the White House at around 5:24 p.m. and told SS agents that they had come to meet President Joe Biden and had a letter to deliver.
At that time, one person revealed that they were carrying a weapon and was immediately detained, and the other person informed that there were additional weapons in a nearby vehicle, the SS stated.
The SS reportedly found and confiscated weapons inside their car.
In Washington D.C., strict security measures have been maintained since the January 6th Capitol riot by supporters of former President Donald Trump.
Authorities plan to maintain 5,000 of the 25,000 National Guard troops deployed for Washington D.C. security until mid-March, considering the Senate impeachment trial schedule for former President Trump.
