[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Soyoung] Na Kyung-won, a preliminary candidate for the Seoul mayoral by-election from the People Power Party, expressed the position that the Moon Jae-in administration should not "put a spoon in" regarding Coupang, a domestic online shopping mall company, pursuing a listing on the U.S. stock market. This appears to be a critical response to Deputy Prime Minister for Economy Hong Nam-ki's statement on the 14th that "it is significant that Korean unicorn companies have been recognized for their global competitiveness."
On the 15th, Candidate Na wrote on her Facebook, "Honestly, I question whether this administration is qualified to make such statements," and pointed out, "The Moon Jae-in administration, which has only been 'holding back innovation' by imposing various regulations and mysterious systems, should reflect before congratulating Coupang."
She repeatedly criticized, saying, "How bad must it be for the laughable metaphor 'K-spoon' to even come out?" She added, "Moreover, since the Democratic Party administration, which holds a huge number of seats, is driving anti-business legislation, it is even less qualified," and pointed out, "The reason why many innovative companies, including Coupang, choose to go to the U.S. is because they have management rights defense systems such as dual-class voting rights."
She continued, "This administration, which goes against global standards and even jeopardizes companies' management rights defense, praising Coupang is an absurd situation anyone can see," emphasizing, "To nurture more companies like Coupang and have them listed on our country's stock market, this administration's 'anti-business DNA' must first be eliminated."
