[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] Kim Jong-in, the Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, commented on the opposition unity, saying, "If I stubbornly try to survive alone, everyone will die." Regarding the party leader position, he dismissed it by saying, "I have no intention at all."

Chairman Kim stated on the 15th, "Unity is not achieved by an individual but is a winning strategy realized through everyone's hope. It is clear that if I stubbornly try to survive alone, everyone will die."

He continued, "Debates between candidates should allow citizens to fully understand the candidates' qualities. To prevent any candidate from gaining an unfair advantage, public debates and communication methods must be managed fairly so that everyone can accept the results cleanly. Personal attacks should be restrained. Candidate debates should focus on policies and constructive discussions, and furthermore, mutual respect should be fostered."

Regarding the rocky unity between Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, and former lawmaker Geum Tae-seop, Chairman Kim said, "If you examine the cause, politicians should have the capability to freely respond to issues that the public asks about; that is the attitude of a politician. It seems that the debate was canceled because such mutual agreement was not reached." He particularly criticized Ahn. He believed the debate was canceled because former lawmaker Geum suggested a free discussion, but Ahn insisted on debating only predetermined topics.

Chairman Kim also pointed out, "One side (former lawmaker Geum) wants a free debate, while the other side (Ahn) insists on fixed question-and-answer only. With such conditions, the debate cannot proceed."

Regarding the party leader position, he emphasized, "I have no intention at all." The day before, Chairman Kim shared a post on his Facebook suggesting he would like to be nominated as party leader but later deleted it. He explained, "Someone sent me a KakaoTalk message saying there was such a post on Facebook, but I didn’t even realize I had shared it?maybe I pressed something wrong while looking at it."
