[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The pace of research to apply 'green hydrogen,' which does not emit carbon dioxide, to agricultural facilities in rural areas is accelerating.
Starting this year, a five-year project will begin to develop foundational technologies for low-carbon energy transition in the agricultural sector.
The Rural Development Administration announced in this year's work plan that it will start related research to distribute green hydrogen facilities in rural areas.
Although it is expected to take a long time to secure core technologies to the extent that it is difficult to set a specific commercialization timeline for green hydrogen, they have decided to respond swiftly to the changes.
To this end, the Rural Development Administration plans to collaborate with research institutes, companies, and universities possessing hydrogen fuel cell technology to develop hydrogen fuel cell agricultural machinery and conduct performance evaluation studies.
Additionally, demonstration research will begin to develop hybrid heat pump systems suitable for agricultural facilities such as mushroom cultivation by utilizing new and renewable energies like solar and wind power.
Operating heat pumps using hybrid heat sources such as geothermal, solar heat, water heat, and waste heat can reduce carbon emissions.
