[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, volunteered for COVID-19 medical service and conducted specimen collection on the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday, the 11th.

On that day, Ahn wore protective clothing and face shields at the temporary screening clinic in Seoul Station Plaza and collected specimens from citizens who visited the testing site.

Before volunteering, Ahn wrote on Facebook, criticizing the Moon Jae-in administration, saying, "Ultimately, the politics of division and incompetence that go against the times have made overcoming the COVID-19 crisis difficult and have heavily burdened the lives of ordinary people with job disasters and soaring real estate prices." He added, "My decision to run for Seoul mayor came from a desperate feeling that we must restore solidarity and coexistence instead of conflict and division, unite the hearts of the people, and save Korea in crisis."

He continued, "Solidarity and coexistence mean that our precious taxes should be used first for our struggling neighbors, not for the benefit of politicians who only care about winning votes," indirectly criticizing the ruling party’s faction advocating for universal distribution of the 4th disaster relief fund.

Additionally, Ahn emphasized, "They are practicing divisive politics that split the people, populism that exploits crises for elections, incompetent and haphazard administration, and autocratic governance," urging, "They need to come to their senses and change their thinking."
