Issuing Electronic Tax Invoices on Mobile with Fingerprint and Facial Recognition Authentication

National Tax Service Allows Use After Biometric Information Registration via Mobile Hometax Service

[Sejong=-Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] It has become possible to easily issue electronic tax invoices or electronic invoices using fingerprint or facial recognition on mobile phones.

The National Tax Service announced on the 9th that from this month, electronic tax invoices (electronic invoices for tax-exempt businesses) can be issued on the Mobile Hometax application, "Sontax," using fingerprint or facial recognition. Android phones can use fingerprint recognition, and iPhones can use facial recognition for identity verification before using the mobile electronic tax invoice issuance service.

When using biometric authentication on Sontax for the first time, users must verify their identity through one of the following methods: joint certificate, mobile phone authentication, or credit card authentication, and then register their fingerprint or face. After registration, electronic tax invoices can be issued on mobile by biometric authentication and entering an eight-digit birthdate.

Until last month, issuing electronic tax invoices via mobile phone required authentication each time using a joint certificate for electronic tax invoices or a security card issued by the tax office. However, from this month, the National Tax Service explained that electronic tax invoices can be issued more conveniently on mobile through biometric authentication.

Taxable individual businesses with an annual supply value (taxable + tax-exempt) of 300 million KRW or more must issue electronic tax invoices, and tax-exempt individual businesses with an annual total revenue amount of 300 million KRW or more must issue electronic invoices.

Individual businesses that exceeded the supply value or total revenue amount of 300 million KRW for the first time last year will be obligated to issue from transactions after July 1 of this year. Failure to comply with the electronic (tax) invoice issuance obligation will result in penalties such as additional taxes.
