Damyang-gun Expands 'Citizen Safety Insurance' Starting This Year

[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam Damyang-gun announced on the 9th that it will expand the implementation of the Damyang-gun Citizen Safety Insurance to all residents starting this year.

The Citizen Safety Insurance is a system in which the county fully covers the insurance premiums and contracts with the insurance company Korea Local Finance Association to pay insurance benefits to residents who suffer damage from various disasters, accidents, and crimes.

The support target includes all residents registered in Damyang-gun (including registered foreigners), who are automatically enrolled without any separate procedures, and the insurance is automatically canceled upon moving to another region.

Starting this year, due to the nationwide spread of COVID-19, death from infectious diseases has been added, expanding the coverage from the existing 11 types to 12 types.

The main coverage includes ▲death by natural disaster injury ▲death and sequelae from explosion, fire, collapse, injury ▲death and sequelae from public transportation use, robbery, agricultural machinery accidents ▲drowning death ▲school zone traffic accident injury treatment costs ▲death from infectious diseases, etc.

Residents or heirs who suffer damage under these categories can receive insurance benefits by directly submitting a claim form along with related supporting documents to the Korea Local Finance Association within 3 years from the date of the accident, and it is possible to receive benefits overlapping with personally subscribed insurance.

Shim Jae-kyung, Director of the Safety and Construction Division, said, “Last year, Damyang-gun received a total of 70 million won in citizen safety insurance benefits due to agricultural machinery accidents and natural disasters,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that residents benefit in the event of disasters and accidents.”
